Arrive Early
Give yourself time to check in, get familiar with the studio, and ask any questions. Arriving early also allows you to choose a spot that feels comfortable for you.
Dress the Part
Wear fitted clothing that allows you to move freely. Look for high-quality Pilates leggings that offer support and flexibility. Avoid loose clothing, as it can get caught in the machine. Check out our best-selling Pilates leggings here!
Bring Your Grip Socks
Many Reformer studios require or recommend grip socks to help prevent slipping on the reformer. If you have your own, bring them along! If not, check to see if the studio provides them for you. Explore our stylish grip socks here!
Communicate with Your Instructor
Don’t hesitate to let your instructor know it’s your first class. They can offer modifications and guidance to ensure you feel comfortable and safe.
Listen to Your Body
Pilates is about quality over quantity. Focus on your form rather than how many reps you can do. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to ask for modifications or take a break.
Focus on Your Breath
Breathing is a vital part of Pilates. Pay attention to your breath and use it to help guide your movements. Inhale to prepare and exhale as you engage your muscles.
Stay Open-Minded
Reformer Pilates can be challenging but also a lot of fun! Embrace the learning process and enjoy the experience. Every class is an opportunity to improve.
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water before and after class to stay hydrated. However, avoid drinking too much right before class to prevent discomfort during your workout.
Ask Questions
If you're unsure about how to use the reformer or what an exercise entails, don't hesitate to ask. Instructors are there to help you!
Enjoy the Journey
Remember, everyone in the class started somewhere. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and enjoy the unique experience that Reformer Pilates offers.
